RIDS English Euphoria: Celebrating Gender Equality through English Language
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the need for a universal language grows ever stronger. English language fulfills this role, weaving its way into our daily lives, breaking barriers of every kind, and uniting us through a shared lingua franca that connects hearts and minds across the globe.
On Saturday, 20 January 2024, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar hosted RIDS English Euphoria, a captivating event dedicated to the theme of Gender Equality. Organised under the Recognition of an International Dimension in Schools (RIDS) programme, the event showcased the power of the English language in encouraging dialogue, challenging stereotypes, and inspiring societal change.
The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising knowledge, hope, and the unifying spirit of equality. The event commenced with a heartfelt welcome and the felicitation of the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Rajendra P. Mishra, Senior Associate Editor at News 18. The honour was graciously conferred by the distinguished Director, Maj Gen Ajay Khandpur, VSM (Retd.), accompanied by Hon’ble Principal Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd), Vice Principal Smt. Bhawna Puri and Headmistress Smt. Sheetal Kapoor. The Principal’s welcome address set the tone for a day of creative exploration and intellectual engagement.
The activities commenced with Design Your Superhero by Class III students, who crafted imaginative superheroes like Power Zeta and Dabung Girl embodying the values of equality and justice. Each participant presented their superhero’s unique name, powers, and mission, leaving the audience inspired by their creativity.
Soon, Class IV students brought superheroes like Wizard Warrior and Equinova to life in Character Depiction of a Superhero. With self-designed costumes made from eco-friendly materials, they enacted their characters’ traits and values, showcasing both talent and environmental awareness.
In Equality Inventor Showcase, Class V students in the shoes of characters such as Prof. Dang or The Equity Birdie presented innovative gadgets and inventions designed to promote fairness and justice. Their ingenuity and thoughtfulness highlighted the potential of young minds to envision a better world.
Thereafter, the students of classes IX and XI engaged in a thought provoking debate on the topic ‘Men in the Kitchen, Women in the Cockpit’, challenging conventional gender roles. The session was a kaleidoscope of children’s opinions, thoughts and perspectives that provided a great platform to hone their public speaking skills
The additional attractions included a storytelling session by a class IX student, narrating a tale of gender equality: The Kingdom of Venezuela, and a role-play performance by a class VI student, portraying Rosalind from Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, followed by an inspiring address by the Chief Guest and vote of thanks rendered by Smt. Indu Sikri , HOD English.
All in all, the event left an indelible mark, reinforcing the importance of equality and inclusion in every sphere of life.
