GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS

On Tuesday, 01 October 2024, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar commemorated Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary to honour the ‘Father of the Nation’. Various activities were conducted to mark this occasion. While tiny tots of Nursery came in different attires of cotton, khadi, and jute carrying different Jute bags to reflect Gandhiji’s vision for India’s self-reliance and sustainability, students of KG made Gandhiji’s spectacles using bangles and pasted it on an A4 sheet. They also wrote ’Swachh Bharat’ vision of Gandhiji, emphasizing cleanliness and hygiene as vital for both personal dignity and national progress. Students of Classes I and II participated in Arts and Craft activity where they decorated a Charkha using cotton. Through this hands-on experience, they learned about the significance of the charkha and its symbolic representation in the context of India’s freedom movement.

Besides these activities, an insightful video was shown to the students of all classes that highlighted Gandhiji’s journey, from his early formative years and experiences with racial discrimination in South Africa to his leadership in India’s freedom movement. Key moments like the Non-Cooperation Movement, Salt March, and Quit India Movement were emphasized, showcasing his use of non-violent resistance to challenge British colonial rule. The film vividly portrayed Gandhiji’s lifelong commitment to Satyagraha (truth) and Ahimsa. (non-violence), demonstrating how these principles transformed India’s struggle for freedom. Later, students engaged in a thoughtful discussion, reflecting on the relevance of Gandhi’s principles of Satyagraha and Ahimsa in today’s time. The event inspired students to embody his timeless values of peace, tolerance, and justice and motivated them to follow in the footsteps of Gandhiji’s enduring legacy.
