CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME ON STRESS MANAGEMENT

Teaching is a rewarding yet demanding profession, often requiring educators to balance numerous responsibilities while maintaining high standards. Recognising the importance of stress management in ensuring teachers’ well-being and effectiveness, S.D Public Secondary School, Bhajanpura hosted a Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on Stress Management, organised by CBSE.
The workshop, conducted by Mrs. Hemlata Suri and Mrs. Laxmi Prakash, aimed to equip teachers with essential stress management techniques. The session began with a warm welcome from the school Principal, Ms. Ritu Kohli. In her address, she underscored the importance of stress management in the teaching profession and lauded the initiative taken by CBSE Center Of Excellence (COE) .
Almost 50 teachers from various schools participated in the workshop. The workshop introduced a variety of key techniques for stress management, including mindfulness practices, time management strategies, and relaxation exercises. These tools are not only beneficial for personal well-being but also play a significant role in improving teaching effectiveness.
Throughout the workshop, Mrs. Hemlata Suri and Mrs. Laxmi Prakash emphasised practical strategies for managing stress. They provided valuable insights on identifying stressors, adopting effective coping mechanisms, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The interactive format encouraged teachers to share their experiences and learn from one another, fostering a supportive community of educators dedicated to self-improvement and professional growth.
To make the workshop engaging, the resource persons conducted two activities. The first activity involved physical movement, encouraging participants to step out of their comfort zones. The second was a group activity, where each group analysed a given case study and presented solutions collaboratively.
The session concluded with following tips to maintain a healthier lifestyle and to prepare us to cope with the stress of everyday living.
- Structure each day to include a minimum of 20 minutes of aerobic exercise.
- Eat well-balanced meals, more whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
- Substitute fruits for desserts.
- Avoid caffeine.
- Get at least 7 hours of sleep.
- Spend time each day with at least one relaxation technique – imagery, daydreaming, prayer, yoga or meditation.
- Go for a walk. Get in touch! Hug someone, hold hands, or stroke a pet. Physical contact is a great way to relieve stress.
Overall, the Capacity Building Programme on Stress Management marked a significant step towards enhancing the well-being and productivity of teachers.
