Disaster Management Awareness Workshop

The Disaster Management Awareness Program workshop was conducted at Salwan Public School for teachers and staff members. The workshop aimed to enhance disaster preparedness and equip the Salwan school community with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle emergencies effectively. It focused on educating attendees about various types of disasters, both natural (such as earthquakes and floods) and man-made (including fires) Detailed explanations were provided on how these disasters occur and their potential threats to people, property, and the environment.

Special emphasis was placed on preparing for earthquakes, as Delhi lies in a high-risk earthquake zone. Teachers were informed about necessary precautionary measures and taught the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” technique.  Ms. Zeba Danish demonstrated how to make different types of stretchers using school materials. The program also covered siren sounds and intervals for signaling emergencies, evacuation maps, and the importance of paying attention to sensitive areas like staircases. The need for an escort or buddy system for special needs students was discussed, along with drill preparation and headcount procedures to ensure everyone is accounted for during an evacuation.

The program concluded with a special focus on the extraordinary work of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and their contributions.  The heroism and dedication of the NDRF were highlighted, showcasing their critical role in disaster response and management. This segment aimed to inspire teachers and students, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and the impact of collective efforts in mitigating disaster risks. The workshop ended with a Q&A session, allowing participants to clarify any doubts and discuss specific concerns regarding disaster preparedness. This comprehensive approach to disaster management aims to ensure that both teachers and students at Salwan Public School are well-prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. By equipping the school community with these essential skills and knowledge, the program seeks to minimize risks and enhance safety for all.
