NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY
On Saturday, 21 January 2024, National Mathematics Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the multi-purpose hall on the ground floor. A variety of engaging activities were organised to make the day memorable for students like abacus and Vedic maths demonstrations, creative newsletter displays, and an inter-house mental maths competition and many more. The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising knowledge and hope.The program was witnessed by distinguished Director, Maj Gen Ajay Khandpur, VSM (Retd.), accompanied by Hon’ble Principal Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd), Vice Principal Smt. Bhawna Puri and Headmistress Smt. Sheetal Kapoor.
The Principal’s welcome address set the tone for the day. Classes III and IV participated in a storytelling event based on mathematical concepts. Their stories skillfully incorporated concepts like multiplication and fractions, helping them build confidence in narration while deepening their understanding of these topics. The selected finalists from the preliminary round participated in the final event, impressing the audience with their creativity and storytelling skills.
Class V students showcased their talents in a thought-provoking debate competition. Topics such as “Should 0 be considered a number?” and “The importance of even and odd numbers in mathematics” sparked critical thinking and enhanced conceptual clarity. After the preliminary rounds, the chosen finalists captivated the audience with their confident arguments and logical reasoning.
For students in Classes VI to VIII, a written quiz on mathematical concepts was conducted as preliminary selection. Four finalists from each house were selected to compete in the grand finale on December 21. The interactive quiz and the enthusiastic performances of the participants were a delight to witness.Vivekanand House emerged victorious in the Inter-House Mental Maths competition. Classes IX and XI students demonstrated their creativity by designing newsletters based on mathematical concepts. The newsletter designed by Gandhi House was chosen as the best newsletter in both Class IX and XI.
The show was also enhanced by the two mathematics clubs i.e Vedic Maths and Abacus. The students of these clubs performed and showcased their unique skills and deep understanding.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, followed by an inspiring address by the Chief Guest and vote of thanks rendered by Headmistress Smt. Sheetal Kapoor.
Overall, it was an incredible celebration of mathematical learning and creativity. The entire school was abuzz with mathematical energy, making it a truly unforgettable day for everyone involved.
